5 WWE Wrestlers to Pay Attention to in 2018

The WWE Universe has seen major milestones at the start of 2018. As we head into Wrestlemania, there are a number of storylines that will shape the entire year.

We know there are 2 major tickets punched courtesy of the Royal Rumble in January. “The Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka and “The Artist” Shinsuke Nakamura both punched their tickets to championship opportunities at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Which WWE wrestlers are poised to have a breakout year? Take a look at our top 5 wrestlers you need to pay attention to this year.

Braun Strowman

The “Monster Among Men” seems to make every week on RAW a premiere event. His battles with Brock Lesnar were great Pay-Per-View events, but Strowman seemed to come up short every time.

Losing the Royal Rumble triple threat match took the spotlight off of the WWE Universal Championship picture for Braun. He is still one of the biggest draws on RAW.

Strowman has had memorable moments this year in a brief feud with Elias, breaking a bass over his back, and pinning him after slamming a piano on top of him in the Symphony of Destruction match a few weeks ago.

What We Can Expect

With Wrestlemania 2 weeks away, Strowman inserted himself into the picture by winning the tag team battle royal on RAW a few weeks ago. The caveat is that he did so without a tag team partner. With a match against “The Bar” scheduled, there is a lot of speculation to who will team up with the Monster among Men to go after the RAW tag team titles.

If Strowman and his yet to be named partner win at Wrestlemania will this be a new change in his career trajectory? Or will this simply be seen as a stepping stone?

He also has the ability to deliver excellent promos on the mic, as his “Get these hands” quote has become a staple of the WWE Universe. Either way, expect Strowman to capture at least one major singles title before the year is over.

Asuka

“The Empress of Tomorrow” continues to grow in her role as one of the faces of the Women’s Division in WWE. She has her well known undefeated streak going and hasn’t lost since signing her contract in 2015.

Asuka’s arsenal of moves includes powerful strikes and her famous Asukalock. The finisher has transitioned into a slightly different submission over the last couple of months.

Asuka has steamrolled the competition on the RAW roster, making quick work of Bayley, Emma, and Dana Brooke. She has had tough battles with Nia Jax, Sasha Banks (arguably the best women’s match on RAW this year), and took down the champion Alexa Bliss. She also secured her spot at Wrestlemania by winning the first ever women’s Royal Rumble.

What We Can Expect

Many believed she would face RAW Women’s champion Alexa Bliss, so it was a complete surprise to the WWE Universe when she appeared at Fastlane. There she declared Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair as her opponent for Wrestlemania.

Anyone familiar with Charlotte Flair knows her as the daughter of legendary Ric Flair. Ric and Charlotte Flair are beloved by young and old fans alike. Curious to see how the younger generations are showing their support for Ric Flair? Check it out for yourself!

The match between Charlotte Flair and Asuka will be one of the best in the WWE this year. It will be a true test of Asuka’s strength and winning streak.

If Asuka defeats Charlotte Flair, there is no reason to believe she won’t head into Wrestlemania 35 with the showdown of all showdowns against Ronda Rousey. This could be billed as the biggest women’s division match ever!

Nia Jax

We previously mentioned how the “Irresistible Force” destroyed Asuka at Elimination Chamber. With Asuka facing Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania, we have seen a great storyline build between Jax and her “former” best friend Alexa Bliss.

Bliss and Jax will face off for the RAW Women’s Championship and it should be a very emotional match. Recent weeks have seen Bliss (and sidekick Mickie James) mocking Jax, which will lead to an excellent match at the Showcase of Immortals.

Similar to Asuka, once Jax has the title belt, I don’t see anyone on the RAW women’s roster being able to dethrone her for quite some time.

Shinsuke Nakamura

“The Artist” has had his share of highs and lows since joining the Smackdown Roster last year. However, he has really grown into one of the premier WWE wrestlers on the brand.

He won the men’s Royal Rumble in January and will face current WWE Champion AJ Styles in a match that the WWE Universe has wanted to see for quite some time. The main event should be a highlight of the year for the WWE Universe as both men should put on an excellent match.

Even if Nakamura doesn’t win at Wrestlemania, he should become a major piece of the WWE Universe for the rest of the year. He may even put on at least 2 more Pay-Per-View events.

Daniel Bryan

Medically cleared by doctors, Daniel Bryan is set to return to the squared circle. This was great news for the former champion. Once figured to be a mid-card wrestler, Bryan’s popularity grew immensely.

What can we expect of Bryan in 2018? Well, for starters, you expect him to square off against Kevin Owens at Wrestlemania. He could possibly form a tag team match with Shane McMahon and go up against KO and Sami Zayn.

It also wouldn’t be a surprise to see him face off against the top WWE wrestlers on the Smackdown brand, including Styles, Nakamura, and Dolph Ziggler.

If Bryan can get back to his full potential inside the ring, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him hold one of the major championships on Smackdown.

How Will These WWE Wrestlers Fare in 2018?

There’s a lot to look forward to this year in WWE.

So far in 2018, these 5 WWE wrestlers are looking to come out on top. It would not be a surprise if all these superstars have championship belts by the end of the year.
