In recent years, the content of video games has been a hot issue.

Especially for children, playing certain video games should be done with caution and the rating in mind.

Whether it features violence, strong language, or sexually suggestive themes there’s been a lot of fuss around the appropriateness of many video games.

To more thoroughly understand why there’s been so much talk, check out this list of the most controversial adults only video games:

1. Grand Theft Auto

Grand Theft Auto is one of the most notoriously controversial adults only video games, and for good reason!

The Grand Theft Auto series of games features great soundtracks paired with a handful of different versions that all center around a storyline that allows the player to freely drive, commit crimes, and shoot.

As one of the more popular games on this list, Grand Theft Auto is a game that is often found in children’s game collections where it absolutely does not belong.

2. Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude Uncut and Uncensored

Another game that is one of many versions, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude Uncut and Uncensored follows the life of dorky college student Larry Lovage.

Throughout the game, the player takes on the task of chasing women on campus and trying to get them to swoon over the main character.

A tagline of the game is “it’s not about who you impress, but who you get to undress” which speaks volumes about the sexual nature of the game.

If the gameplay is successful, Larry may need to utilize this simple free std location finder.

3. Manhunt 2

Manhunt 2 is a rated M game published by Rockstar Games.

This psychological horror stealth game follows main character Daniel Lamb, who is a mental health patient who is suffering from amnesia.

Throughout the game, Daniel is trying to reveal his identity and is accompanied by sociopathic assassin Leo Kasper.

This games release date was originally pushed back until the parent producing company made edits that included censoring executions in the gameplay and removing a system that awarded the player points for brutal murders committed.

4. Custer’s Revenge

Custer’s Revenge is one of the older games on this list released by Mystique in 1992 for the Atari 2600.

This throwback game’s main character is loosely based off of General George Armstrong Custer.

During gameplay, the player controls a General Custer who is scantily clad and visibly has an erection with the intent of overcoming attacks and having sex with a naked Native American woman who is tied to a pole on the other side of the screen.

5. Mortal Kombat

Released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the Mortal Kombat video games are a part of a franchise of spin-offs featuring a live-action tour, a card game, and a comic book series.

6. Singles

The best way to describe Singles is the Sims of adults only video games.

The gameplay is similar to the Sims series in the fact that it features a character that the player must follow a living routine with.

However, the difference falls into the fact that the focus is less on meeting basic needs and more on the success of flirting with and eventually bedding other characters in the game.

7. Riana Rouge

Featuring the main character Riana, who is a demure secretary who in a series of events learns about her life in another world.

8. Postal 2

Postal 2 is an intentionally controversial video game due to the violence and blatant stereotyping that it features.

Banned in New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Germany, and Sweden, this video game has more than earned its position on this list.

During gameplay, the player takes on the role of Postal Dude who is presented with mundane tasks to complete throughout the day in that reality.

While completing these tasks Postal Dude is met with varying levels of harassment and heckling that can be dealt with in a way that is violent or civil as the player sees fit.

9. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Featuring things like mass shootings and terrorist attacks, this first player shooter game has created quite a bit of controversy for itself.

In the fourth mission of the game, titled “No Russian”, the main character perpetrates a mass shooting in the Moscow airport.

There have also been easter eggs found in the game referring to various homophobic themes, such as the United States’ “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

However, despite the controversy, the game has been a huge success and has received a 9/10 rating on Steam and a 9.5/10 on IGN.

10. Bulletstorm

Another first-person shooter game, Bulletstorm’s gameplay is very fitting with its name.

Bulletstorm features a style full of crass humor and violence that rewards its players for taking part of killings in increasingly creative and gory ways.

The game doesn’t offer any versions with multiplayer competitive gameplay modes but does offer score attack modes and cooperative online play modes.

Upon the release of the game, it received quite a bit of positive reviews, but those weren’t enough to outweigh the controversy and ultimately the game was a bit of a flop.
