Red Dead Redemption 2 Confirmed For Fall 2017 By Rockstar Games
Have you been on Twitter recently? No? How about the Internet? It’s an announcement that’s pretty hard to miss, and has the gaming community (and this writer) extremely excited – yes Rockstar Games finally confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2 is in development and will be making an appearance on Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles later next year.
Red Dead Redemption, released in 2010, varied immensely from the previous Rockstar Games library. Set in the wild west, this open world action-adventure followed the good (and bad) exploits of John Marston, an outlaw forced to confront his bullet-riddled past in order to rescue his family from the government. It quickly became the Wild West game that everyone wanted and led to the future release of Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, the zombie-infested DLC pack that Rockstar released as a standalone game. The last we had heard about the Red Dead franchise was the release of the Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year Edition in 2011, which came with all of the additional content.
Until 3 days ago.
On the 16th Rockstar posted a single image that set the internet on fire, and fans took it as a sign that a sequel was quickly on the way.
The next day, the 17th, Rockstar Games posted a second picture. With its rising sun background and Magnificent Seven-style team picture, it pretty much confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the making.
Finally, with 200K likes and 140K retweets, Rockstar officially confirmed Red Dead Redemption 2 yesterday, announcing a Fall 2017 release date and the date of the first trailer.
Other than a Fall release for Xbox One and Playstation 4, no other details have been announced. We’re hoping this changes with the first trailer, set to come out 20th October at 11AM EST/4PM GMT. According to the official website, Red Dead Redemption 2’s “vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience”. Excited yet? We’ll bring you all the details as they come out, including anything juicy from the trailer tomorrow!
