Xbox controller support coming to Samsung Gear VR

It seems that Microsoft is looking to offer its support to yet another VR platform with its new controller support for Samsung’s Gear VR headset, coming shortly. In their announcement, we learned that the first game playable with the new controller support will be Microsoft’s own Minecraft: Gear VR edition, which will be playable first at Minecon this weekend (in the Minecraft Game Lounge Oculus demo section, to be precise).

In addition, controller support will be coming to a broader range of Gear VR titles including Herobound and End Space, and should be available in the coming months. This news may not be surprising as it marks the second VR headset to be supported by Microsoft’s Xbox controller after it was announced as a pack in with the Oculus Rift late last year.

According to the announcement, the first step to playing Minecraft: Gear VR Edition on your own controllers is to get the latest controller update. Then you simply need to download the October update for the game in the Oculus App, connect your Bluetooth controller and you’re all ready for VR mining!

Microsoft went on to say: “We’re working hard to make the Xbox Wireless Controller compatible with all controller-supported Gear VR games and future games, too,”

Along with this announcement, an October update will bring Android compatibility for Microsoft’s new Bluetooth controller. This update will support theGalaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy s6 edge+, Galaxy S6, and the Galaxy S6 edge.
