ESRB Description Accidentally Reveals New Resident Evil 7 Details
Capcom has kept a lot of details about Resident Evil 7 Biohazard under lock and key since it’s announcement, so they were probably as surprised as we were when an Entertainment Software Rating Board description leaked details on the playable character and some of it’s gory content.
According to the ESRB post (which was quickly removed from the website but still exists thanks to Wario64’s quick tweeting skills) revealed that players assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his missing wife. It’s interesting how this character will fit in with the previously-announced Baker family or the mysterious Mia. The name Ethan was mentioned briefly in the Gamescom Lantern trailer, with the words: “Ethan, if you find this, I know I can’t expect anything from you. I don’t know what happened. There’s so much that you need to know.”
The description also confirmed the first person perspective, copious amounts of gore and intense acts of violence, including chainsaw dismemberment’s and the odd shovel impalement. While it’s not a lot, it’s certainly enough to get pique any survival horror fan’s interest. Here’s the full ESRB description:
This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his missing wife in a derelict mansion. From a first-person perspective, players explore the environment and use pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. Combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood-splatter effects. As players progress through the story, cutscenes can depict instances of gore and intense acts of violence: a character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw; a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel; a character impaled through the face with a shovel. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses with exposed organs/viscera. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the dialogue.
Could this really have been an accidental leak, or could it be Capcom delivering on their promise to reveal new information soon? Either way, the Outlast-styled Resident Evil game certainly has my attention.
Resident Evil 7 Biohazard will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on 24th January 2017.
