Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive at Gamescom 2016

Gamescom still seems to be pumping out the surprises: Konami recently announced that they are currently developing a post-Konima Metal Gear game – Metal Gear Survive.

Metal Gear Survive is a four player stealth co-op game in which your main objective is apparently to survive. The game takes place in an alternate dimension which is created when mother base blows up at the end of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. The 4 players theoretically are soldiers who worked on the base, and find themselves in a “distorted desert landscape full of massive half-formed structures, living biological threats and the remains of a once strong military force”. Sounds absolutely charming! Take a look at the Gamescom trailer below:

Konami decided to part ways with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima right before the release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and they also seemed to part ways with the ability to tell stories. This will be the first title to be produced without Hideo Kojima or his team, Kojima Productions.

With the base building ability already in MGS 5: TPP, Survive may just be heading in that same direction, promising “a divergent look at familiar METAL GEAR themes” and that it will pursue “a fresh spirit of exploration in unique gameplay mechanics”. That’s a lot to promise, and fans will certainly be keeping an eye on this one. Konami plans to release more information within the next few days.

Metal Gear Survive is set to come out in 2017 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
