[UPDATE] Dying Light Promotes Water After Destiny Announces Red Bull Partnership
This a public service announcement from your friends at Techland to remain hydrated.
— Dying Light (@DyingLightGame) June 24, 2015
For those of you who may have missed it, this is in response to the recent partnership between Destiny and Red Bull. The partnership entails a mission in the upcoming expansion The Taken King that can only be unlocked via codes found on specially marked cans of Red Bull.
The reception for this has been rather negative on top of the backlash of the pricing for the upcoming expansion. The expansion alone costs $40 in the U.S., a pretty steep price for DLC and even an expansion. On top of this, the collector’s edition retails for $80, which includes three emotes for each class, three armor shaders, and three exotic class items with XP bonuses. The kicker, however, is that it also includes the base game and all previously released DLC. This forces veteran players to have to re-buy the base game if they want access to the exclusive content within the collector’s edition.
Needless to say the reception has been very negative, and only made worse by Bungie trying to defend the price tag. Cue the hilarious response of Dying Light developer Techland as seen above.
In an obvious jab towards Bungie, Techland has begun their own promotion where you take a picture of yourself drinking water with the hashtag #DrinkRightDyingLight and you will receive a code for a premium weapon docket to use in game. Because, you know… water is kind of important.
This is pretty funny, and I personally hope this gets the message across that what Bungie is doing with the upcoming expansion is questionable to say the least. What do you think? Was this too much? Are you going to stay hydrated and enjoy your fancy new docket? Sound off in the comments!
UPDATE: Well, that was fast. Destiny has released an apology letter in their weekly update newsletter, stating that the exclusive content thought to be locked in the collector’s edition will now be available in a standalone $20 pack.
Additionally, players who already have a level 30 guardian or both expansion packs will recieve some fancy items seen below.
They also stated that they will have more bonuses to announce very soon. Until then, be sure to stay tuned for more on what this extra stuff may be, and don’t forget to stay hydrated.
