New Mirror’s Edge Confirmed By EA, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst
The new Mirror’s Edge game finally has a name and is planned for release before the end of EA’s fiscal year, as predicted based on earnings reports. The name of the title was discovered after a NeoGAF user, Rösti, stumbled upon a European trademark filing for “Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst”, filed by the patent and trademark firm “J. A. Kemp”, who have cooperated with Electronic Arts on other projects in the past. Further probing ended with the discovery that EA had a domain name filing under the same name.
Soon after the trademark and domain name were discovered, EA confirmed that the next Mirror’s Edge title is officially Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst and is planned to launch before March 31, 2016, the end of EA’s fiscal year. Most suspected that the new Mirror’s Edge game would not be a sequel, but would instead be about Faith’s earlier jobs before the events of the first Mirror’s Edge. Now, we have a bit more information thanks to producer Sara Jannson.
“The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience,” Jannson writes. “This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror’s Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.”
Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is planned to release in 2016, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
