Next Gears Of War Confirmed For E3, Black Tusk Renamed To “The Coalition”

Studio Head Rod Fergusson has announced today that Black Tusk Studios will henceforth be known as “The Coalition” in a special Gears Of War “Rodcast” that you can view below.

In preparation for E3, Fergusson explains the change of the name as a better reflection of the team behind the game, calling it a name for “a collection of diverse individuals for a common purpose”. They also wanted something that related to the game(s) they work on, similar to other studios within Microsoft. He explains “When you hear the name 343 Industries you think of Halo, when you hear Turn 10 you think of Forza. Moving forward, we want you to think of Gears Of War when you hear The Coalition”, with their new name relating to the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COGS for short) within the story of the game.

Fans can also rest easy knowing that this news also comes with confirmation that the new Gears Of War will be revealed at Microsoft’s E3 presentation this year. It was already safe to assume we would see it then, but now we have full confirmation and one more thing to expect when Microsoft hits the show floor Monday, June 15 at 4pm PT.

Personally, I’m all for the new name and logo, and I’m definitely looking forward to more info on Gears Of War. I like the theme Microsoft has of studio names that relate to the project they work on, but also wonder what will happen when those teams want to make a new IP. What do you think of the announcement? Love it? Hate it? Or are you too excited over the newly announced Fallout 4 to care? Sound off in the comments, and stay tuned for more info when E3 comes around!
