ARK Arrives in 2016

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live alongside the most colossal and dangerous creatures ever to walk the planet? How would your guns and modern ingenuity help, when an enraged Tyrannosaurs Rex is coming after you, inching closer and closer with every stride? The answers to those queries comes with even more questions in ARK: Survival Evolved.

In ARK: Survival Evolved, players take the role of a human who wakes up in naked alongside other humans on a mysterious, Jurassic island. It is with these people, players will have to work together to feed themselves, clothe themselves, and protect themselves from the harsh world they now inhabit.

Players will band together to make use of their various strengths and skills to not only survive, but to create a society through tribal interactions. Join hundreds of characters in collecting items and exploring every part of the ARK. From the highest mountains to the deepest, darkest underground caverns. Together, you will build settlements and tame one of sixty prehistoric beasts to help you in your journey. The creatures around you will help to better travel the earth,  sea, and sky. Raptors, Pterodactyls, and even T-Rex’s are all creatures you can turn to your side with the use of role-playing elements.

Humans though, will also serve as opponents. As you build up your own tribe, you compete for resources, territory, and experience with other tribes across the ARK. Like the Jurassic world that inspires it, only the strong can remain to thrive and ultimately discover the purpose of the ARK.

The game, brought to you by Studio Wildcard, be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One via the [email protected] (Independent Developers @ Xbox) Program, Windows PC, Mac, and Linux in early 2016. The game will also release on Steam and take full advantage of the platform with a Steam Economy and Workshop for mods and maps. The world is meant to be ever-expansive and player-oriented.

ARK: Survival Evolved will be available on Steam’s Early Access Program on June 2nd, 2015!

While it looks promising, we all know what, “The world is meant to be ever-expansive and player-oriented” really means. Like way too many “survival” games out now (well, out meaning Early Access), they’re going to abandon ship as soon as the playerbase falls too much and the thing will never get fleshed out. Meant to be expanded =/= will be expanded…. or even feel complete anywhere near launch.

I mean, there are just WAY too many of these, and none of them are finished. None of them are really compelling either; just drop you in a world, then build a small house while you wait to kill, or get killed by, another player; rinse, repeat. Heck, this isn’t even the only one with dinosaurs, as Beasts of Prey and The Stomping Land have shown.

It’s really hard to get excited about this. I know I’m not the only one who just wants Ubi Soft to hurry up and make a Far Cry game (either main or spinoff, a la Blood Dragon) about Dinosaurs.
