Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Revealed

The next main installment for the Assassin’s Creed series is here. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was officially announced by Ubisoft today via a trailer and nine-minute pre-alpha gameplay demo.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes place in London, the year 1868. Players will take control of two new assassins, the twins Jacob and Evie Frye. You’ll be able to swap between the two at nearly any time, except for certain missions and where the narrative restricts the character choice.

Syndicate is set during the height of the Industrial Revolution. The Assassins are chiefly concerned with rallying the disenfranchised working poor against the aristocracy, controlled, naturally, by the Templars. Jacob and Evie will be aided by a colorful cast of historical figures including Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens.

New gameplay additions include driving horse-drawn carriages a la Grand Theft Auto. Trains also make an appearance in the trailer as another mode of transportation. The rope launcher tool is shown off as well, allowing players to scale buildings much faster than by simply climbing them. Check out the first look at gameplay below.

Syndicate will be single-player only, IGN reports. After the debacle of Unity’s launch, Ubisoft scrapped the multiplayer component so they could “focus on creating the biggest city based open-world that we’ve ever had for an Assassin’s Creed game.” The world map will be 30% larger than Unity’s Paris, and will feature six distinct boroughs: Westminster, the Strand, the City of London, Whitechapel, Southwark, and Lambeth.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is getting a worldwide release on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 on October 23rd. The PC version will launch later that fall.
