Fave Five: Potential Guest Fighters for Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat Mania (feel free to add a hashtag to that) is sweeping the nation (and possibly the world) as players from all over step into Outworld for another round of fatalities and animalities. Still, being gamers, it’s hard not to wonder what could be. It’s hard not to sit back and think, “Man, this guy would be pretty cool in this game!” Which is pretty much why I’m writing this article.

With potential for so much great DLC and an already large roster of characters, arguably the last thing anyone could ask for is even more fighters. Still, if you were going to ask for more fighters, it could be tricky finding some nice choices to fit in with the ultra-violent and gory spectacle that is Mortal Kombat. Don’t worry, though. I’ve taken that burden off your shoulders and come up with what I believe are five prime choices for inclusion in Mortal Kombat X.

1. Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke the Terminator

When we’re talking about Mortal Kombat, to put it frankly you gotta talk big and you gotta talk bad, and few men in the DC Universe are as big and bad as The Terminator! With NetherRealm having already had a taste of what they can do with Wilson in Injustice: Gods Among Us, a number of DC Characters like Superman, Arrow, or The Flash are all potential guests. What separates them from Deathstroke is that, unlike them, he’s no hero. Among the most dangerous men in the DC Universe, Slade has tangled with the likes of the Teen Titans, Batman, and at one point took down the Justice League alone! His gear and extensive arsenal would prove for quite the challenge to any competitor unfortunate enough to get in the ring with Deathstroke, and in particular Jax may be an interesting opponent. Regardless of the opponent, though, Deathstroke the Terminator would fit right in…fighting for whatever side looks to pay him the most.

2. Heihachi Mishima

The King of Iron Fist would make a solid entry into the realm of Mortal Kombat. Like a fine wine, the commander of the Tekken Force Unit only improves with age. A mainstay in the Tekken series, it wouldn’t be the first time Heihachi has guested in another series, and would likely prove as solid an entry in Mortal Kombat as he did in Soul Calibur II. Brutal, violent, powerful—essentially a version of Shao Khan without armor and a pet bear. What impact Heihachi could have on events that could take place throughout the series could range from instrumental to nominal. Regardless, should anyone consider getting in his way, his Mishima Style Fighting Karate will prove a difficult test. Perhaps an opponent like Liu Kang could prove a worthy challenge for the King.

3. Siegfried

The man who would wield both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur! A heroic presence amidst the chaos that is Mortal Kombat.

But in all seriousness, Siegfried brings a bit more regality to the table than what we’re used to. That doesn’t mean he can’t use that massive sword to make some heads roll, though. The type of competition in this tournament could prove very familiar to a fighter like Siegfried, and facing foes like Kotal Khan would be a bit like facing down a monster like Nightmare. Similar to Raiden in terms of demeanor, a character like Siegfried would be a great choice to enter Mortal Kombat in defense of Earthrealm. Much like Soul Calibur, Siegfried could bring a lot of power and technique to the game.

4. Bayonetta

What? You thought this was just going to be a boys’ club? Girls can get brutal, too, and few display that better than Bayonetta. As far as the characters and the world of Mortal Kombat go, Bayonetta fits in perfectly with her mix of over-the-top abilities and weapons and unique character design. More than likely fitting in just as well in either Outworld or Earthrealm, it wouldn’t be a shocker to see her pursued by the likes of Raiden…ya know, for her heritage. The chance to throw Bayonetta into an already chaotic mix would be one fans would likely be hard-pressed to turn down, that’s for sure.

5. Nero

Nero_Devil_Trigger

It’s impossible to find solid video-proof of Nero’s badassery, so just use your imagination with this picture.

In celebration of the upcoming Special Edition release of Devil May Cry 4, it only seems fitting that the star of said game get to stretch his legs a little bit. Nero may not be the most iconic character in Devil May Cry history, but he carries on the tradition of overall coolness in everything he does, from his Red Queen sword to his Blue Rose firearm. Honestly, the addition of Yamato to his arsenal almost makes things unfair for anyone who happens to come into contact with him in the realm of Mortal Kombat. (Don’t worry though. They can handle it.) In particular, characters like Scorpion may well be in Nero’s cross-hairs.

Now of course, these characters are just a few of the names that would make fitting additions to the Mortal Kombat arena. Characters like Corvo Attano and The Prince (of Persia) are among the many characters that didn’t quite make the list, but that doesn’t make them any less valid. Who would you like to see make their Mortal Kombat debut?
