The Witcher 3 Features Real Time Beard Growth

Yes you read that tag-line correctly.

While playing The Witcher 3 when it finally launches this May, Geralt will grow out his facial hair in real time. A strange yet oddly impressive feature it may seem, Geralt will have to manage his beard (or not) as he slays monsters and beds women.

Geralt’s beard and hair will have to be maintained at a local barbershop, unless you are going for that lumberjack look. Eurogamer asked CD Projekt’s communications chief, Michał Platkow-Gilewski, for more detail:

The beard grows as time passes and when Geralt moves between locations. The beard has several “states” and these states determine its length – the longest is really long but it’s not Gandalf-long.

However, for those afraid that beard management will impact their monster-slaying time, CD Projekt Red also has a solution:

When you download the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC the growth of the beard will stop because we decided that when players want a predefined look, it would be weird to require from them to reapply it time after time.

A list of more cool game features can be seen over at the NeoGaf forums.

Do you think that beard management is a nice touch to add to The Witcher 3 or will you be applying that Beard and Hairstyle DLC? Let us know in the comments section below!

As long as “beard growth” doesn’t impact gameplay it seems interesting if a bit silly. As log as it doesn’t do a “CJ” like in GTA: San Andreas, where you had to actually exercise to stay fit as if all that running and gunning wasn’t really equivalent.
