Microsoft Loses Viva Piñata Trademark

Microsoft has lost the ownership of the Viva Piñata trademark after failing to show continuous use of the IP.

Viva Piñata has spawned a couple of Xbox 360/PC titles, a TV show and a Nintendo DS game that was published by the now-defunct THQ. The series itself has garnered a fairly positive reception, with the last console release being Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise for the Xbox 360.

Many had hoped the franchise would rear it’s colourful head on Xbox One, but with Microsoft choosing not to renew the trademark it’s looking less likely. Microsoft may still choose to re-buy the trademark, but for now that doesn’t look to be on the cards.

The news was spotted on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, with the below screengrab showing the cancellation.
