Shovel Knight Coming to Xbox One
Guess what Xbox fans? Thanks to Microsoft’s [email protected] Program, Shovel Knight is coming to the Xbox One and the Battletoads will be making a guest appearance in the Xbox One version.
Shovel Knight, for those of you who don’t know, is a 2D platformer in the style of 8-bit games such as Mega Man or Ducktales. Shovel Knight was released in early 2014 and was incredibly well received by the indie community and has won game of the year awards from several gaming publications.
Shovel Knight is currently on Wii U, 3DS, and Steam. Versions for PS3, PS Vita, and PS4 are on the way for an April 21, 2015 release and will have an optional fight with Kratos from God of War much like how the Battletoads will be on the Xbox One version.
The Battletoads, meanwhile, come from an NES game of the same name. Released in 1991 and developed by Rare, Battletoads is a 2D sidescroller beat ’em up that is considered by many to be the hardest game on the NES. Battletoads, along with the rest of Rare’s properties, was bought from Nintendo by Microsoft in 2002.
While the Battletoads series has gone over 20 years without a new game, there has been speculation that Microsoft is going to do something with the IP and this cameo basically confirms that something will happen with Battletoads.
