Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Releases September 1, 2015

The wait for the next entry in the Metal Gear Solid franchise is almost over. According to Kotaku, who discovered a leak from IGN, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be seeing a worldwide release on Xbox One and PS4 on September 1st, 2015.

The Phantom Pain is the “second part” of Metal Gear Solid V, according to creator Hideo Kojima, who says it’s meant to be played after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, which was released in March 2014. The game will follow “Venom Snake”, voiced by Keifer Sutherland, as he slowly undergoes his transformation into series boss “Big Boss,” through adventures in Afghanistan and Africa in 1984.

Phtantom Pain will have a more free, open-world approach than prior games, allowing you to build up your own base and decide between stealth and full-on “bull in a china shop” approaches to dealing with enemies.

Ground Zeroes was well received by critics, though some voiced concerns about the game just being a “prequel” to Phantom Pain due to a relatively short campaign length, leading to Phantom Pain being seen by some fans as the “true” Metal Gear Solid V.
