Ready At Dawn: “There’s No Filler” In The Order: 1886
Ready at Dawn has defended The Order: 1886 once already, but now game director Dana Jan and technology director Garret Foster are stepping up to the plate in an interview with develop. Jan addressed the recent controversy regarding a certain five-hour playthrough of the game (which has since been taken down). Jan told develop:
…when you play our game you’re going to be on a rollercoaster of variety, twists, turns, there’s no filler, you’re never grinding in our game.
Ready at Dawn has been getting a lot of flak in the past few days for the allegedly short length of The Order: 1886. The studio’s CEO has gone on record saying it is simply “impossible” to beat the game in under 6 hours.
Jan declined to talk specific numbers, but did say that “if you’ve played other games that are in the same genre as ours, third person shooters you’re in for the same length of ride as those games.”
The Order: 1886 isn’t even out yet and the game is already provoking conversations about the value of video games as a function of time spent and dollars spent. Where is the line between quality and quantity? The answer will be different for every person.
We can all decide for ourselves when The Order: 1886 comes out for the Playstation 4 on February 20th. For those who don’t want to wait, the review embargo lifts tomorrow.
