Rumor: Star Wars: Battlefront Will Span Entire Saga (And Much More)
It is truly a good time to be a Star Wars fan. A new movie is on the near horizon (without George Lucas at the helm), Disney appears to be holding the franchise to the same standards fans have hoped and a new Battlefront game is in the works. The DICE-developed sequel to one of the most well-loved series in the Star Wars pantheon, and so far signs have been positive (although anything but vaporware is positive for Battlefront at this point.)
However, a new rumor (which we can’t substantiate at this time) would seem to point for some exciting news for the franchise. The man behind Making Star Wars, a site that has had accurate leaks in the past, claims to have been told a few rumors about the upcoming game. Some of the major news is quite a shocker.
For instance, word is the game will take place along basically the entire timeline of Star Wars as we know it, stretching from the time of The Old Republic all the way up to The Force Awakens. Jason Ward, the man behind the post, does note that the majority of the game will take place during the original trilogy, and even some battles set in the unknown era between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens (an era he says there is already plans for). You will take control of both sides of the conflict during the single-player story, and obviously also the multiplayer, of which matches will consist of 32 players on each side.
That alone is a lot to take in, but some smaller, yet no less intriguing, nuggets also include:
- The glorious return of space-to-land battles
- In-game models of the actual assets used in The Force Awakens
- An aggressive DLC plan, with at least five packs in the works
- It will offer an extended look at what happens before and after The Force Awakens
Like I said, this is all simple speculation at this point, but I find nothing there to be absurd to the point of unreliability, and, if true, it raises my expectations for the game even high than they already were (which is saying quite a bit). Star Wars: Battlefront (3? We don’t know yet) is currently scheduled for a release this holiday season. We will substantiate or refute these rumors as soon as we can, but in the meantime, check our wishlist for the new game.
