New Rise Of The Tomb Raider Details
The sequel to Crystal Dynamics’ reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise is Game Informer’s March cover story, and you know what that means– more details are incoming for the snowbound sequel.
Rise Of The Tomb Raider will be an Xbox One and Xbox 360 exclusive that sends our intrepid heroine Lara Croft to Siberia. While the Tomb Raider reboot portrayed Lara as a headstrong, capable, but untested young woman, Rise will feature a hardened, traumatized version of the adventurer.
Additonally, Game Informer reports that there will be a renewed focus on survival, crafting, and raiding those titular tombs. The optional puzzle tombs in the reboot hid some of the best gameplay sequences within their stony walls, so this is great news.
Lara must seek the “lost secrets of immortality” or some similar macguffin. There’s talk of a shadowy cult and other groundbreaking story elements, too. Lara herself was the best part of the reboot, as Crystal Dynamics nailed her transformation from ingenue to mass-murderer. The plot is just background noise with such a dynamic, captivating character up front.
The Tomb Raider reboot is currently the best-selling entry in the series. Apparently, Crystal Dynamics also “hasn’t ruled out the possibility” of Rise Of The Tomb Raider spelunking to other consoles, either.
Who knows? Maybe next-gen Lara can give next-gen Nathan a run for his money.[Source: Game Informer]
