10% Playstation Store Discount Comes This Weekend

As earlier promised, Sony has posted more details about that 10% Playstation Store discount over on their blog.  The discount is just one of two reparations Sony is making for the now-infamous DDoS attacks that took down the Playstation Network, Xbox Live, and other online services over the holidays.

According to Sony Network Entertainment VP Eric Lempel, “the discount will be valid from 9:00 AM 1/23 PST through 9:00 AM PST 1/26.”  These dates comprise this upcoming weekend only, so start building your cart now.  The discount is good for one cartful of items only.

The discount can be used on the Playstation Store on the PS3, PS4, or on the web at store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com.

There are some excluded items as well, namely subscriptions for “PS Plus, Music Unlimited, PS Now, and video rental content.”

The code itself will be on the Playstation Store and can also be found via the @Playstation Twitter handle.

Finally, those users who had an active Playstation Plus membership during the outage will soon be seeing Sony’s promised five-day extension as well.  Anyone eligible for the extension will be receiving an e-mail with more details.

The hacker squad responsible, Lizard Squad, was in the news when two alleged members were arrested a few weeks back and a third was brought in for questioning by federal authorities.  According to a fourth alleged Lizard Squad member under the alias “Dragon,” the DDoS attacks were simply a marketing ploy to advertise their commercial DDoS attack service called Lizard Stressor.
