Rise of the Tomb Raider Microsoft Publishing

Microsoft is Publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider is being published by Microsoft. According to a tweet from Aaaron Greenberg, the marketing boss of Microsoft’s 1st and 3rd party games, Microsoft will be taking up publishing duties for the game, which is due to release first on Xbox One in Holiday 2015.

A Microsoft spokesperson released a follow-up statement, comparing the game to how Microsoft handled publishing for Dead Rising 3 and Dance Central.

“Yes, Microsoft will be publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox,” the spokesperson said. “Similar to how we worked with Capcom on Dead Rising 3 or Harmonix on Dance Central, we’re very excited to partner with the amazing team at Crystal Dynamics to bring Rise of the Tomb Raider in holiday 2015, exclusively to Xbox.”

Dead Rising 3 was initially an exclusive launch title for the Xbox One, the game was released on the PC ten months later.

“Both our team and the Xbox community are huge fans of the franchise and we can’t wait to share more on the game in the future.”

Square Enix has issued a statement, further confirming this news.

“Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming.”

Well, somebody has to. And Sony just sold off their Square Enix stock this year, so burnt bridges there. Xbox is the shooter console, so I wouldn’t expect anything less than Microsoft and Square Enix being a match made in heaven, frankly. MS could use some more 3rd-person games, particularly with Ms. Croft’s polish.
