New Zelda Wii U Gameplay Footage Shown

During The Game Awards, Nintendo showcased new gameplay footage for its anticipated next Zelda title on the Wii U, slated for a 2015 release.

The footage was shown via a video of Shigeru Miyamoto and Zelda director Eiji Aonuma playing chunks of the game, while discussing its many new features and mechanics being introduced for the first time in the series. The gameplay started with Link running up a hillside, and Miyamoto talking about the sunset – eluding to a possible day/night cycle. Link then surveys the vast expanse of Hyrule until he spots a dark tower, in which both Aonuma and Miyamoto promise that you’ll be able to go anywhere you see on the horizon.

Aonuma was also showcasing how the Wii U GamePad will be used – as a map where you’ll mark specific areas to travel to. Link was also shown riding a horse, and using his bow and arrow.

Miyamoto and Aonuma ended the video by revealing that a new Star Fox game for Wii U will release before Zelda, with the 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask coming before both.
