Star Wars The Force Awakens First Trailer In Theaters Friday

I do not have a bad feeling about this. According to a post on the Star Wars blog, an 88-second trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens will run in 30 theaters this weekend across America. The trailer will run before all screenings in the following theaters, starting Friday morning:

After this weekend, the trailer will run in theaters worldwide in December. Principle photography for the film is rumored to be completed, and JJ Abrams presumably has a ton of work in post-production to do. There is no consensus about what footage will be ready to cut a trailer with, but we’ll soon find out.

There is no word on when the trailer will be available online as of yet. Judging by how quickly The Avengers Age of Ultron trailer leaked, I don’t think it will be long before the entire internet can take a peek at Star Wars Episode 7.

Incidentally, JJ Abrams and Disney have been very tight-lipped about the film, with strict on-set security and a very slow stream of information. This trailer will be the biggest reveal of the film so far. We have already been teased about the Millenium Falcon and the news of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher reprising their roles. This new trailer probably just make the wait even worse, but that’s a risk I think we’re all willing to take.

Back in 1998, Lucasfilm released a trailer for Star Wars The Phantom Menace in theaters as well. I sincerely hope the similarities end there.

This has been a great week for my inner ten-year-old, with this news joining a reveal of the first Jurassic World trailer this Thursday. Below is the teaser, complete with a stark rendition of John Williams’ famous score and Chris Pratt looking rugged/angry.

Jurassic World premieres on June 12th, 2015.

Star Wars The Force Awakens premieres on December 18th, 2015.
