PS4 2.0 Update Rest Mode Bug Squashed

Between the non-functioning DriveClub for PS Plus users and the rest mode bug in the PS4 2.0 Masamune system update, it hasn’t been a great month for Sony. DriveClub has been postponed indefinitely, but at least a fix for the rest mode bug is rolling out right now.

The software update landed pretty smoothly last week, but the rest mode bug is a big problem for many users. Playstation 4 users who put their console into rest mode found they could not wake the system without first unplugging the AC power. This method can corrupt the hard drive and cause other problems with the hardware. Thankfully, Sony recognized what a large problem the bug poses and acted relatively quickly to rectify it.

Our own Blake Anglin has already wrote great coverage on what to expect from the update. Among the most popular additions are a dedicated Youtube app, custom themes (finally), dashboard sorting, and Share Play. According to Blake, Share Play allows you to essentially “share” your controller with another player over an internet connection. Through Share Play, you can play couch co-op with a friend without even sharing a couch. Neat!

The patch version is 2.0.1 and is 217.2 megabytes. Users who had their consoles turned off will download the patch automatically.
