Upcoming GTA 5 Re-Release Will Include A First-Person Mode
After launching to historic sales numbers when it released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 last year, it only made sense that we would see GTA 5 arrive on current-gen consoles and PC sooner or later.
Rockstar is desperate to show that the upcoming GTA 5 release is not just a rehash for the new platforms however, and is detailing tons of exclusive features which will be available in the newest iteration of the title.
GTA 5 on PS4, Xbox One and PC will include a first-person playable option, a first for the series. Gamers can now play the title completely from the first person perspective, and this is sure to bring a whole new game play experience to the year old game.
“It’s a very intense, in-your-face experience… literally,” says Rob Nelson, the Animation Director on GTA 5. “Obviously, we felt like one of the most compelling things you could do to make an experience people have had before feel different was the new first-person mode.”
Originally announced by IGN, the first person mode was designed from the ground up to take advantage of the power of the newest generation of consoles, and experiencing San Andreas from the first person is a totally new experience.
“We’ve always been in interested in it, but it’s never really been an option for us,” Nelson says. “I don’t think we could’ve put it in the [last-gen version] because we were too busy making the game. We were too busy working on our third-person controls and the missions.”
“We were out of memory on the old consoles for animations. We were constantly fighting about what we could have and what we could still push in, and what other areas you could steal memory back from – audio, art, maps – for animation. So we could’ve added all the atoms to make a first-person mode to the level we wanted. We weren’t sure the world would have held up the way we would’ve wanted it to.”
Gamers can experience GTA 5 in a brand new way when the game launches on November 18th.
