Bandai Namco Reveals New Star Wars: Battle Pod Arcade
You better not exchange those quarters just yet! As the classic arcades are becoming fewer and fewer, Japanese game maker, Bandai Namco revealed a brand new Star Wars-themed arcade called Star Wars: Battle Pod.
In nearly an hour long event, the developer behind Dark Souls, Dragon Ball, and Pac-Man, boasted their new machine. Star Wars: Battle Pod is a single-seat space flight simulator that utilizes a curved screen for better immersion into the game. To further engage players, the game makes use of a seat that reacts to explosions, fans that blow gusts of air at the player, vibrating controllers, and 5.1 surround.
“It’s a game that you don’t just play, you experience”
Players will be able to pilot the T-47 Airspeeder, 74-Z Speeder Bike, Millennium Falcon, and T-65 X-Wing Starfighter in a variety of different setting from the films. Yavin, Hoth, Endor, and the Death Star are all confirmed locations. The game also includes a non-canon final stage in which players will pilot Darth Vader’s TIE Advance X1 and attempt to destroy the Death Star.
Star Wars: Battle Pod will be shipping to arcades in January, 2015. Any Star Wars fans in New York might want to head over to the Midtown Dave & Busters to get a sneak peek starting tonight until November 2.
