Kingdom Hearts III Switches Over To Unreal Engine

According to creative director Tetsuya Nomura, Kingdom Hearts III will now be developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. Nomura revealed the news in an interview with Famitsu (via NeoGAF) in which he explained the change was made due to “various reasons.” Though despite there being a few issues with the transition initially, no further delay is expected. Epic Games will also help if any new issues arise.

This news is made even more curious due to the Nomura not using Square Enix’s much advertised Luminous Engine, which was unveiled back at E3 2012 through the Agni’s Philosophy tech demo. It’s still believed that Enix’s flagship title, Final Fantasy XV, is still using Luminous but it’s still unclear if any other projects are making use of it.
