Microsoft’s Mojang Acquisition To Be Announced On Monday

It was reported a few days ago that Microsoft were in serious discussions to purchase Mojang and its highly popular IP Minecraft. According to a report from Reuters, Microsoft’s deal to purchase the studio will be announced as early as Monday, September 15. The deal will reportedly be worth around $2.5 billion, making it one of the biggest acquisitions of any company or studio. Reuters also claims that Microsoft is purchaisng Mojang in order to bolster its mobile platforms.

Though the deal will cost Microsoft a lot of money, Minecraft is very capable of raking in immense profits for the company. The game has sold 50 million copies on both PC and consoles, and has turned in $100 million just last year, three years after it made its debut.
