Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice Date

Batman V Superman Releasing Before Captain America 3

The rumble underneath the Warner Bros. big top between DC Comic’s Dark Knight and The Last Son of Krypton just got a lot bigger a lot sooner. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be soaring its way into theaters March 25, 2016, months ahead of its intended May 6, 2016 same day release against Marvel’s own untitled Captain America 3.

The move meets in an alleged game of chicken between the rival studios, it was long assumed that DC and Warner Bros. or Disney and Marvel would certainly buck under pressure and move their blockbuster. Apparently DC blinked first. The Wrap quotes a Warner Bros. insider who cited the decision as “a fantastic corridor” for the film’s release rather than simply “flinching.”

The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider was the first to break the news via Twitter. Box Office Mojo additionally lists nine more as of yet untitled DC films plus two “event” films as follows:

• Untitled DC Film – August 5, 2016
• Untitled DC Film – June 23, 2017
• Untitled DC Film – November 17, 2017
• Untitled DC Film – March 23, 2018
• Untitled DC Film – July 27, 2018
• Untitled WB Event Film – November 16, 2018
• Untitled DC Film – April 5, 2019
• Untitled DC Film – June 14, 2019
• Untitled DC Film – April 3, 2020
• Untitled DC Film – June 19, 2020
• Untitled WB Event Film – November 20, 2020

Based on the title alone, it’s assumed that Man of Steel and BvS director Zack Snyder’s planned Justice League film would fill in 2017’s date. It’s been further speculated that a Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Jason Momoa would possibly lead Justice League spin-off films, including Wonder Woman, Batman, and Aquaman films, respectively. A Shazam/Black Adam film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the titular baddie is also expected among the releases above.

Batman V Superman will certainly start off quite the busy year for Warner with the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them slated for Nov. 18, 2016 and the likely beginning of yet another Hogwarts-themed trilogy.

Time will tell whether DC’s finest can be the last action superheroes of Marvel’s, but we expect to find out spring after next.
