PS4 Firmware Update Adds 3D Blu-Ray Support

While the PS4 may be superior to its older brother in almost every way, it was still lacking in a few areas. It received the remastered version of The Last of Us, shoring up one of its deficiencies, and the latest firmware takes another step in the right direction.

Update 1.75 is adding 3D Blu-Ray support, a feature took for granted when the console was first announced. 1.5x playback is also getting a sound fix, which should hopefully scale back the hilariousness of speeding through a movie (whether or not that is a good thing I leave to you). For some reason, system messages have also been moved from the top-right to the top-left of the screen, because…well, I don’t know why. We’ll just go with it.

Automatic featured content downloads have been added, which allow you to download “featured content” while your PS4 is either powered on, or on standby mode. This includes demoes, time sensitive trials and other free content, so you don’t have to worry about your PS4 purchasing games for you while you are away.

Xbox One fans will have to wait until next month to receive 3D Blu-ray support, so it looks like we can chalk this race up to Sony again.
