8 Million Copies Of Watch Dogs Have Been Shipped
Ubisoft has announced, in an investor’s call earlier today, that it has shipped 8 million copies of Watch Dogs since it released back in late May, significantly boosting its sales figures for this year.
Upon releasing, Watch Dogs broke a plethora of sales records, quickly becoming the fastest-selling new IP ever. 4 million copies of the game were sold over its opening week on the market, with 14 percent of those sales being digital. Ubisoft said that its 2014 first quarter fiscal sales – which stands at around $490 million – is a 374 percent increase from last year’s $103 million.
Despite early technical issues with the PC version, 10-12 percent of its total copies were sold on the platform. Though it’s still unclear whether or not Watch Dogs will become the greatest-selling game of all time for Ubisoft, as it has to best some entries from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, it’s healthy commercial performance pretty much guarantees a sequel.
