Gearbox Software’s New Game Revealed, Titled Battleborn

Developer Gearbox Software, the studio behind games such as Borderlands 2 and Brothers in Arms, has announced that its next game is a new IP called Battleborn.

The news was announced via Game informer’s cover reveal, which states that Battleborn is “a fusion of first-person shooting and loot-grabbing RPG elements in a living comic book art style.” The game features quick leveling, creeps, and particular heroes comparable to MOBAs like League of Legends. It is essentially a five-player cooperative campaign, that will contain a “dramatic story.” Gearbox also promises 5v5 competitive multiplayer.

“As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe,” said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. “Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created.”

The game’s story takes place in a “distant future, the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors, who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace.”

The game will release sometime in 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

This announcement goes in line with what Gearbox has stated earlier in the year, claiming that it is not developing Borderlands 3 and instead will be focusing on a new IP. The studio is also co-developing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel with 2K Australia, which will release for last-gen systems this Fall.
