Cliff Bleszinski is Coming Out of Retirement
The mind behind the Unreal Tournament and Gears of War series is returning to the video game industry. Cliff “Cliffy B” Bleszinski announced via twitter today that he is “officially coming out of retirement to make video games again.” Bleszinski hasn’t worked in the industry since his departure from Epic Games in 2012.
Back in February of this year, Bleszinski told Gamusutra that he wanted to avoid making a disc-based game and that we didn’t want the Gears of War series to be his legacy. Last December, he expressed a desire to make an arena first-person shooter without cutscenes or any scripted sequences.
Bleszinski’s most recent game was Gears of War 3 in 2011. It’s unknown what genre his new project will be though it’s likely going to be a shooter of some sort. Bleszinski’s tweet also promises more details on his return to the industry in the next seven days.
