Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Co., Ltd., poses after Nintendo’s E3 presentation of their new Nintendo 3DS at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Los Angeles

Satoru Iwata Re-Elected As Nintendo President

During Nintendo’s Annual Shareholders Meeting, the company’s president Satoru Iwata was re-elected to the board of directors. Iwata retains his position as president, despite his current health issues and his approval ratings steadily dropping. His ratings peaked at 92.9 percent in 2011, but dipped to 77.3 percent last year.

There’s also the issue of the Wii U not selling well, with global sales of the system sitting only at around 6.17 million units. The company also reported an annual loss as well, largely due to the under performance of the home console.

But Mario Kart 8 has quickly become a commercial hit for Nintendo, as it managed to sell 1.2 million copies in its opening weekend, and reaching 2 million copies in one month. There’s also the case of the company’s take on NFC, Amiibo, which will most likely perform well commercially.
