Mirror’s Edge 2 to Focus on Combat
It may be hard to hear for some fans but Mirror’s Edge 2 will be focusing on combat. In an interview with CVG, DICE General Manager Karl Magnus Troedsson briefly talked about the development team’s plans for the new Mirror’s Edge game. According to the interview, the new game will be focusing on first-person combat.
“If the last game focused on first-person movement, it was definitely shown in the [E3] movie here that the DICE team will be focusing on first-person combat as well, to really nail and refine that,” Troedsson told CVG. “Fans of the game will just have to wait and see until we talk more about the actual game is and the vital mechanics of it. We’ve shown the combat and movement now, but there’s so much more to talk about.”
“What I can say is, this not going to be the same game as the last one. We’re building Faith for a new generation.”
Fans of the first game may be distressed to hear this as the combat in the previous game was easily the weakest part of the gameplay. While I’d much rather see Mirror’s Edge 2 focus on improving the parkour gameplay, focusing on the combat isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We’ll have to wait for DICE to the reveal more before we’ll know for sure.
