Crytek Might Be In Financial Trouble
According to reports made by Kotaku, following a story from German magazine GameStar, Crysis developer Crytek is having serious financial issues. The studio has been late in paying its staff, and its employees have been leaving over the past few months. The staff is claiming that they’re working in an unstable environment. A few high-level staff members have left their studios in Germany and the UK, with a little over 100 people leaving Crytek in the past three months.
Employees are claiming they’ve been paid late as well, sometimes as far as three months. There’s also concern that Crytek is moving away from developing triple A games and instead is focusing on free-to-play titles. However, upper management is denying all claims stating the following to Eurogamer, “Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny.” Kotaku writers say that they’ve not received a response form Crytek on their reporting.
