N64 Games Could be Coming to the Wii U Soon

The Wii U’s virtual library’s been noticeably barren since launch, but a new notice from Nintendo’s site may be heralding the return of a few fan favorites.

Fans may recall Nintendo brief mention of a few retro throwbacks coming to the its newest systems’ Virtual Console at its launch in North America, including that of its 1996 N64 home console. For the better part of a year and a half, the digital catalogue stocked solely NES and SNES titles.

Nintendo’s website is now asking players to stay tuned for news on the “future addition of titles from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 systems.”

This past January, Nintendo announced the arrival of its Nintendo DS titles to the Wii U VC following some reported technical hurdles, soon to be followed by its first Gameboy Advance release of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Advance Wars, and Metroid Fusion as promised last April.

There’s been no word on the requested addition of GameCube titles to the Wii U VC just yet. For now, Wii titles are playable on on the Wii U thanks to its special Wii Mode.
