Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Gets Brooding in E3 2014 Trailer

As if anyone didn’t see it coming, Uncharted 4 capped Sony’s E3 conference with a nice teaser. Though it didn’t show much, we witnessed what appeared to be a haggard, middle-aged Nathan Drake struggling to his feet with a voiceover conversation explaining Drake has been in retirement for some time. Spoiler alert: he comes out for one last hurrah (presumably, but realistically not).

Perhaps most notable about Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (which is scheduled for a 2015 release, like seemingly everything else announced at E3) is the darker, more brooding tone of the trailer. Whether that atmosphere will carry over into the rest of the game is uncertain, but Neil Druckmann’s and Bruce Straley’s influence already feels prevalent here. Though the Uncharted series has its heavy moments, it’s an overall lighter-toned series featuring a wise-cracking treasure hunter and equally amusing sidekicks. Of course, most everything at this point is speculation, but if the trailer is any indication of the finished product, we may be seeing a more weighted side of Nathan Drake.
