Want to Appear in the Upcoming Star Wars?
Last week many Star Wars fans were just going about their daily lives, possibly hoping for some news on more confirmed castings. News did break, but not in the style they’d expected: first, director J.J Abrams posted a video on set and, second, he has claimed that you can win a chance to appear in Episode VII by helping to support their charity.
It’s great to see Star Wars giving back to fans, and not only in fulfilling their wishes to appear in the film, but also the fact that Abrams promised less CGI for the creatures and to use real prosthetics. The Star Wars team has opted for real looking creatures, which in the video above they have demonstrated by using a Jim-Henson style creature which lurks around behind Abrams.
Most importantly though, the charity UNICEF is being helped by Star Wars: Force For Change, and Disney are getting things going with a donation of 1 million dollars. Fans are next up to help as every 10 dollars that is donated will reward you with a chance to win a trip to the set – which will be at Pinewood Studios in England.
“The Star Wars fans are some of the most passionate and committed folks around the globe,” says director J.J. Abrams. “We’re thrilled to offer a chance to come behind the scenes as our VIP guests and be in Star Wars: Episode VII. We’re even more excited that by participating in this campaign, Star Wars fans will be helping children around the world through our collaboration with UNICEF Innovation Labs and projects.”
“The Star Wars films were made through George Lucas’s adventurous combination of technology and creativity,” says Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “We wanted to honor and carry on that positive spirit as we start production on Episode VII and use Star Wars to make a difference in the world. Star Wars: Force for Change will help us do that, letting us give back to the fans who keep Star Wars alive, and raising much-needed funds for programs like UNICEF’s Innovation Labs.”
It’s good to see the Star Wars franchise using their fan base to help poverty in less fortunate countries.
More news will be sure to come this way soon, but if you can’t wait that long, check out the official Star Wars YouTube channel that will bring you news first as it arrives. Hopefully the first images from the set will arrive soon which will, I’m sure, fuel rumours of who is playing which character.
