Dota 2’s Championship Prize Pool Now Exceeds 6 Million

The total prize pool for “The International”, a tournament for the game Dota 2 has now exceeded six million dollars. This feat makes the Dota 2 championship prize pool the highest ever in eSports history.

What makes this even more impressive is that the prize pool is still growing. For every Compendium sold in Dota 2, $2.50 is added to the overall prize pool for the tournament. The Compendium came out two weeks ago, and for the asking price of $10 adds stretch goals that the community can reach if the prize pool gets high enough. The six million mark means that all of these stretch goals have now been met, and Compendium owners will get to enjoy various customization bonus’s in game. With the popularity of the Compendium and The International in general, Valve has not yet mentioned if they will add more stretch goals to continue the building of the prize pool for the tournament. More information on what exactly players will receive in the purchase of their Compendium can be found here in this helpful guide.

The International takes place from July 18-21 in Seattle, Washington. Gamers can check out the event in person if they were lucky enough to score tickets, or catch all of the matches live through the Dota website or in-game client.
