Xbox Live Gold Membership No Longer Needed For Streaming Apps Such As Netflix

Microsoft has confirmed that starting next month, gamers will no longer need to pay for a monthly Xbox Live Gold membership to access streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Go. Starting in June, both Xbox One and Xbox 360 members will no longer need a membership to use any streaming apps or to use the internet browser.

“Coming in June, anyone with an Xbox will be able to access popular entertainment experiences,” says Microsoft, “whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership.”

As neither Sony nor Nintendo require a monthly membership to be paid to access thier streaming apps, it makes sense that Microsoft is following suit. The announcement of the ending of the membership barrier comes on the heels of other huge announcements that have already been made by the company today including an Xbox One Price Drop and Games For Gold give-aways.
