Nintendo Apologzies for Tomodachi Life

Nintendo Apologizes for Excluding Same-Sex Marriage in Tomodachi Life

Nintendo has officially apologized for their exclusion of same-sex marriage. In the wake of the controversy that has arisen surrounding the upcoming 3DS game Tomodachi Life, Nintendo has officially apologized today for the lack of same-sex marriage in the virtual sim.

“We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life,” Nintendo wrote on their website. “We are committed to advancing our longtime company values of fun and entertainment for everyone.”

According to Nintendo, it isn’t possible to patch Tomodachi Life to include same-sex relationships however Nintendo promises that this problem won’t occur in future games.

“We pledge that if we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players.”

Nintendo previously stated that the lack of same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life was not intended as political commentary. This statement was in response to a social media campaign called Miiquality which urged Nintendo to address the exclusion of same-sex relationships. Miiquality was launched by Tye Marini via a post on Vimeo.

Tomodachi Life remains scheduled to release in North America and Europe on June 6.
