Assassin’s Creed Animation Director Moves To Naughty Dog

Jonathan Cooper, animation director of Assassin’s Creed 3 and lead animator for Mass Effect 1 and 2, has joined Naughty Dog following a slew of lay-offs that took place at the renowned studio.

Gameinformer spotted Cooper’s change of employer through his Linkedln account. He was working on an unannounced project over at Ubisoft Montreal “Prototyping a revolutionary new kind of navigation system for next-gen systems.” His new position at Naughty Dog simply is simply as a “animator.”

As has been well documented, a handful of changes occurred at Naughty Dog over the past several months. To start, Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig abruptly, and surprisingly left the studio. She has since moved on to working at Visceral Games on an unannounced Star Wars game. Following her, Uncharted game director Justin Richmond left as well for League of Legends developer Riot Games. Finally, The Last of Us’ Lead Artist and Lead Character Artist, Nate Wells and Michael Knowland, have left as well.

At least Naughty Dog is getting one new worker. I’m more curious to see who’s heading up their writing, given how much I believe Amy Hennig contributed to the series’ heart.
