Square Enix Registers Just Cause 3 Domain
A third game in the Just Cause series may be in development. Square Enix officially registered a Just Cause 3 domain today according to DomainTools.com via a tweet from Superannuation. The registering of a domain name doesn’t qualify as an official announcement, but it confirms that a publisher is at least, considering development. The tweet also speculates that Just Cause 3 may be revealed at E3 this year.
Square Enix previously registered the domain name for Just Cause 4 in 2012. Avalanche Studios, the team behind the Just Cause games are currently working on Mad Max, a game based on the film of the same name. Mad Max was announced at E3 last year and is scheduled to release later this year on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC.
The Just Cause games are a series of open-world sandbox style games that emphasize player-freedom and destructible environments. Just Cause was released in 2006 for the Xbox, PS2 and Xbox 360 and recieved lukewarm reviews. The series is much better known for Just Cause 2, which was released in 2010 for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
Just Cause 2 is known for it’s ridiculous stunts, colossal map size and a popular multiplayer mod. According to a tweet from Christofoer Sundberg, Chief Creative Officer at Avalanche Studios, Just Cause 2 sold more than 6 million copies as of last year.
Square Enix hasn’t yet commented on this story and have made no official announcement regarding the Just Cause series.
