Next James Bond Almost Has Villain
According to The Wrap, the Oscar-nominated Twelve Years a Slave actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, is the likely candidate to play the next James Bond villain.
The Wrap was quick to say that they believe no talks have been held between Sony and Ejiofor as yet; however, the idea of him playing the role is just being talked about.
The rumours seem likely as it would be a fitting choice for the role; fresh off Steve McQueen’s masterpiece Twelve Years a Slave, where he played Solomon Northup, a black man who was captured and sold into slavery. Ejiofor gave a strong, believable performance of a man whose life had been stripped from him.
As Northup, Ejiofor bagged himself an Academy award nomination, along with plaudits from critics and audiences alike. So the idea of him playing the villain this time, with his name still in people’s heads from his performance, would be an interesting but solid choice by the producers.
Only time will tell if Chiwetel can pull off a more chilling performance than former Bond villain Javier Bardem in 2012’s Skyfall.
With Sam Mendes to direct again, the twenty-fourth entry in the Bond franchise is due to kick off shooting in November, with a release date of the 23rd of October 2015.
Let me know below whether you think Chiwetel Ejiofor is the right choice for the next Bond villain.
