The Leftovers Gets Teaser and Release Date
HBO has confirmed the release date for the new apocalyptic series The Leftovers for June 15th, airing at 10pm.
Based on the book of the same name by Tom Perotta, the show will follow a police chief played by Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive) who has to cope with keeping a shell-shocked town in order after 140 million people (2% of the population) suddenly disappear off the face of the Earth. It sounds like a rapture of some kind.
The show will be a very different take on a world changed by an event, with it showing the effects of a world on the fringe of an apocalypse, and how society copes with that. Unlike the smash hit The Walking Dead, which deals with a world completely ruined by the living dead, it’s safe to say that The Leftovers will not feature any Zombies.
The Leftovers will be written by Damon Lindelof, who was the co-creator on the smash hit series Lost; so if that is anything to go by, expect weird and surreal occurrences to appear through the series.
Also the series will have Peter Berg set to direct two of the episodes – he is fresh from his box office hit, Lone Survivor, which received two Oscar nominations.
If the talent behind the screen isn’t enough to get you watching, then check out the cast which includes Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Charlie Carver, Max Carver, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Emily Meade, Annie Q, Margaret Qualley, Amanda Warren, and Chris Zylka.
With all the talent, let’s hope this series can become as big a show as Lost was. However, this time, unlike Lost which dragged on becoming a tad preposterous, The Leftovers will have an ending. Nevertheless, according to Lindelof it might be a bit different from the book’s final act.
The Leftovers will start its ten episode run on June 15th. If that’s too much of a wait, then check out the teaser for The Leftovers below.
