Super Smash Bros. News Roundup!
During the Super Smash Bros. themed Nintendo Direct, lots of news was released regarding both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the upcoming game. The so far untitled Super Smash Bros. will be releasing for the first time on two platforms, as both the Wii U and 3DS are getting a version of the game. Super Smash Bros. will be launching in Summer 2014 for Nintendo 3DS and is expected to arrive in Winter 2014 on the Wii U.
3Ds Exclusive Multiplayer Feature
Owners of Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 3DS will get to experience “Smash Run”, an exclusive multiplayer mode. Smash Run has four players fight their way through a dungeon to fight enemies and collect power ups, and ends in an epic arena showdown.
New Character Announcements
Five new characters have been confirmed, one new and four returning fighters. Greninja will make his Super Smash Bros. début, as the fighting type Pokemon joins the roster for the first time. Charizard, while not a new character, is now playable for the first time. Other fighters announced include fan favourites Zero Suit Samus, Yoshi and Sheik.
Both the 3DS and Wii U versions will include online multiplayer, allowing players to battle each other from around the world. Specifically, Nintendo detailed two different modes which will be offered online, “For Fun” and “For Glory”.
For fun is exactly as it sounds, and offers a casual non competitive Smash Bros. environment. All stages, items and power ups are available to use in this mode.
For Glory is a more competitive online mode, which tracks a players wins and losses. In For Glory, only final destination stages are available for use. Meaning there are no elevated areas or items in this mode.
For the first time, players can customize move sets when playing online or with friends. More information has been promised on this feature later.
