The Last of Us Sells 6 Million Copies

Naughty Dog’s critical hit The Last of Us has sold 6 million copies, the studio announced today on the PlayStation Blog. It’s not clear whether or not the 6 million figure was sold to retailers, or to customers. But the number most likely pertains to customer purchases since the last update Sony provided came just after three weeks of the game’s release, in which it managed to sell 3.4 million copies.

Considering the staggering success The Last of Us achieved, the topic of having a sequel has been brought up several times. Just recently, Druckmann revealed that the studio is still brainstorming though ideas regarding a sequel. ”We don’t know yet,” he said. “We’re still trying to figure it out. We’re brainstorming some stuff, so we’ll see where that goes.”

Naughty Dog and Sony also recently announced a film adaption of the game is in the works. The script will be penned by Neil Druckmann, and will be produced by Spider-Man and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi.

The game also recently won 5 BAFTAs including Game of the Year, beating out Grand Theft Auto V and Tearaway.
