The Last of Us Movie Is Game Adaption

Creative Director of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann, has clarified in an interview with IGN that the newly announced movie will be a direct game adaption. Which means we’ll be seeing both Joel and Ellie on the silver screen in the future. However, Druckmann has stated that development on the film is still in very early stages.

“It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us,” he confirmed. “As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface.”

Penning a script that’s directly lifted off of the game might not be a bad idea, considering the fact that the title has gone on to win several awards, more recently taking home 5 BAFTA awards including Game of the Year.

Spider-Man and Evil Dead director Sam Raimi has confirmed to be producing the film alongside Druckmann, Game Director Bruce Straley, and Naughty Dog heads Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra. Screen Gems will be distributing the movie.

Elsewhere in the interview, Druckmann was asked whether or not a sequel to the game is in the works. “We don’t know yet,” he replied. “We’re still trying to figure it out. We’re brainstorming some stuff, so we’ll see where that goes.”
