Uncharted Director Leaves Naughty Dog

A Sony representative has told IGN that Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. “We can confirm that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. Amy has made significant contributions to the game industry and we appreciate all she has done for Naughty Dog. The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted.”

Amy Hennig served as writer and director on all three Uncharted games, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. She was serving as writer and director for Uncharted PS4 before her sudden departure.

IGN claims that numerous trusted sources have stated Hennig was “forced out” by The Last of Us’ Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, and that this new Uncharted game will come under both of their control. Such news is troubling, if Hennig was forced out, as she just recently celebrated her 10th anniversary at the studio. Even though production on the new Uncharted title won’t be impacted, one has to wonder how her departure will impact other coworkers.

Either way, we’re sure with the experience she’s gained in the industry, and the portfolio she’s amassed for herself, she’ll land on her feet in no time.

Well, she’s earned the Naughty Dog break for sure, though it certainly won’t be the same without her. I want to think it went more smoothly than that, but Neil Druckerman’s been testing my patience the way he’s being more uncooperative lately. I have to wonder if Uncharted is going to get darker from here on out because of it. I hope not. It deserves to keep that fun, Indiana Jones adventurer trek.
